About the event
On December 6-7, UNESCO is co-hosting with the European Parliament (STOA) and other distinguished organizations, the 2020 edition of The Athens Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence and the Rule of Law, the premier international, multi- stakeholder event specifically focused on the governance of AI in government, industry, and society, under the prism of legal systems, the practice of law, and regulatory compliance.
The event will be hosted under the patronage of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic. It will provide attendees with insights about global AI policy developments as well as information about AI practices that corporate, public, and other organizations might use as guidance for regulatory preparedness. The event will also provide an opportunity to attend participatory breakout sessions in domains of direct interest to judges, advocates, academics, policy-makers, legislators, regulators, general counsel’s offices, and compliance and privacy officers.
UNESCO and partners will be launching the AI and the Rule of Law online training programme for judicial operators worldwide.
Speakers will include senior international regulators and policy makers (including leaders from OECD, the European Commission, and the Council of Europe); senior policy representatives from industry (including Google and Microsoft); representatives of governmental and non-governmental standards-setting bodies such as US NIST and IEEE; representatives from national and international bar associations, law societies, and judicial education centers; leading academics from prominent universities such as New York University, Stanford, and Oxford; and major AI-focused think tanks, among other stakeholders.
